Coleman Jr. Added To Biletnikoff Award Watch List
November 07, 2024 | Football
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State wide receiver Kevin Coleman Jr. has been added to the watch list for the 2024 Biletnikoff Award, The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation Inc. announced Thursday. Coleman Jr. joins teammate Kelly Akharaiyi on the watch list.
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the college football season's outstanding FBS receiver. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes college football's outstanding receiver, not merely college football's outstanding wide receiver.
Coleman Jr. has had a breakout junior campaign, leading all Mississippi State receivers in all major receiving categories, including receptions (57), yards (688) and touchdowns (5). He also has three 100-yard games this season to lead the team. His 57 receptions are tied for 12th nationally and rank sixth in the SEC, while his 688 receiving yards are fourth in the SEC and 26th nationally. He is one of only six SEC players with at least five touchdowns and one of only four with a reception of at least 80 yards on the season.
Â
Coleman Jr. has been one of the most reliable receivers in America throughout his career. He has caught a pass in 26 straight games, the 24th longest active streak in the country, while also catching 5+ passes in eight of nine games this season and 8+ passes in three of the last four contests. He became the first Bulldog receiver to have 8+ receptions in three straight games since 2021.
Â
Not only has he been Mr. Reliable in catching the football, but he has also been able to make plays with the ball in his hand. He has five games this season with at least one reception of 30+ yards, with 28 receptions that have gone for over 10 yards, in which he is one of only four SEC players that can say that.
