November 10, 2024 | Women's Tennis
HOUSTON – Mississippi State women's tennis concluded a dominate showing at the Rice Fall Invitational on Sunday.
The Bulldogs tallied an impressive 14-3 record in both singles and doubles play on the weekend with Emma Cohen and Alessia Tagliente winning their respective singles flights with perfect 3-0 records. Cohen and Tagliente also teamed together to post a flawless 3-0 record in doubles as well.
"I'm very happy with my players and staff at this event," said head coach Chris Hooshyar. "They executed on their habits and I'm proud of them!"
Tagliente completed her singles sweep on Sunday by battling UTSA's Valeria Sanchez for a hard-fought 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 victory that won Flight 4. Cohen claimed Flight 6 by taking down Gabriela Felix da Silva of Iowa State in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
Jayna Clemens closed out the event with a respectable 2-1 mark while Gianna Oboniye added another singles victory before being forced to retire due to injury. Clemens and Oboniye also picked up a pair of doubles triumphs together during the tournament.
"I am very happy with the way we competed this weekend," said assistant coach Taylor Russo. "It was a great way to end the fall, and I couldn't be prouder of the girls!"
