October 07, 2024 | Soccer
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following a historic week on the pitch, two Bulldogs have earned Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors. Ally Perry was named SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while keeper Maddy Anderson claimed SEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Ally Perry continues to assert herself as one of the premier players in the SEC. The Frisco, Texas native currently leads the conference in shots per game (4.64) and ranks second in total shots with 51. On the national level, Perry ranks 11th within the NCAA in shots per game, making her the only player in the SEC to be in the top 25. Perry's consistent ability to generate scoring opportunities has translated into success on the scoreboard, as she ranks fifth in the SEC in goals per game with an average of 0.64.
This marks Perry's second career SEC honor, with her first being SEC Freshman of the Week in 2021. This week, Perry made history for the Bulldogs with her Olimpico goal in the 19th minute—directly from a corner kick—that proved to be the game-winner in Mississippi State's 1-0 victory over then top-ranked Arkansas. With seven goals and four game-winners already to her name this season, Perry continues to be a clutch performer for the Bulldogs.
On the defensive side, Anderson, a Seabrook, Texas native, anchored the Bulldogs' defense to her 34th career shutout, holding Arkansas scoreless for the first time in 2024. Anderson recorded her ninth solo shutout of the season (10th combined), as she currently leads the SEC in goals-against average (0.19) and save percentage (.920). This is Anderson's sixth career SEC honor, further cementing her as one of the top goalkeepers in the conference. Her efforts have been critical in MSU's defensive dominance, as the Bulldogs are the only team in the SEC yet to concede a goal in conference play.
State's defensive unit also leads the nation in goals against average with a stellar 0.182, while ranking second in the country in save percentage at .920. Anderson's leadership in goal has been a driving force behind these national accolades, contributing to the Bulldogs' outstanding form this season.
State will look to build on their momentum as they continue their conference campaign in Athens when they take on the Bulldogs of Georgia on Thursday.
