Cohen, Pitta Sweep On Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State swept Saturday at the Samford Round Robin #2 thanks to underclassmen Emma Cohen and Athina Pitta.
Cohen, a true freshman from England, earned her first collegiate singles victory by downing Samford's Grace Keller 6-2, 6-3.
For the second-straight match, Pitta battled back after dropping the first set. The sophomore from Greece was edged 7-5 in the opening set by Polina Ramenskaja of Jacksonville State but evened things with a 6-3 victory in the second and won a super tiebreaker 1-0[7] to improve to 2-0 on the weekend.
Cohen and Pitta also upped their doubles record to 2-0 by defeating UAB's Kristyna Damaskova and Maria Paz Ospina 6-2.
The MSU pair will once again partner with six players from Troy to take on Samford in doubles action on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.
Cohen and Pitta will play singles alongside the Trojans versus a mixture of six players from Central Arkansas and two UAB players starting at 11 a.m. to conclude the final day of the tournament.
Individual match draws for singles and doubles will be selected on Sunday morning.
