October 11, 2024 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State head track and field coach Chris Woods announced today the hiring of Kyle Stevenson as the program's new director of operations.
Stevenson comes to Starkville from Georgia State, where he served as the head track and field coach from 2019-24. He coached athletes to 10 Sun Belt Conference honors, highlighted by the 2024 outdoor 100m champion and the 2021 outdoor long jump champion. Stevenson started at Georgia State as an assistant coach in 2017.
"Kyle Stevenson brings a plethora of knowledge and experience to Mississippi State," Woods said. "He made strides to improve both the program and student-athlete experience at Georgia State, and I'm excited for what's coming in Starkville. His hiring is another step toward being an elite program providing an elite experience for student-athletes."
Stevenson served as an assistant coach at Saint Martin's University, East Tennessee State, Austin East High School and Hardin Valley Academy before transitioning to Georgia State. During this time, he oversaw the 2017 USTFCCCA Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, the GNAC indoor and outdoor record holder, and the school's first national title in any sport. At East Tennessee State, Stevenson oversaw three top-three conference finishes, two conference-meet records in the hurdles and seven athletes selected to the academic all-conference and freshman all-conference teams.
Stevenson earned a master of sports psychology and motor behavior degree, and a bachelor's of sport management and business administration from Tennessee. He competed for Tennessee as a short sprinter, earning two All-American honors and represented Team USA on the junior circuit.
