September 04, 2023 | Football
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State football's Kyle Ferrie was named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week for his kicking efforts in State's 48-7 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.
A true freshman from Searcy, Ark., Ferrie had a solid start to his collegiate career against Southeastern Louisiana. Ferrie connected on a pair of field goals and made all six PATs against the Lions. His first collegiate field goal was from 47 yards, and his second was from 49 yards. His 49-yard field goal was the longest by any SEC kicker in week one.
Ferrie scored the first points of the 2023 season for Mississippi State in the first quarter. He became the first Mississippi State true freshman to score the program's first points of a season since Chad Bumphis in 2009.
He was also one of three SEC kickers to kick and make multiple field goals in week one.
Ferrie and the Bulldogs will be back inside Davis Wade Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 9, when they host Arizona. Kickoff against the Wildcats is set for 6:30 p.m.
