Sosa Leads MSU Past Bevill State On Friday

STARKVILLE – Lexi Sosa struck out four of the nine batters she faced before collecting a pair of doubles at the plate as Mississippi State cruised to a 19-2 victory against Bevill State on Friday night. The teams had agreed to play eight scheduled innings.
The first five Bulldog batters reached base in the bottom of the first, and MSU pushed across three runs. Salen Hawkins drove in a run with a double in the frame. Sosa's first double of the day, kickstarted a six-run second inning that also saw Jadyn Burney and Hawkins collect their second hits of the night.
State scored four in the third inning. Along with Sosa, Ella Wesolowski doubled in the inning. Brylie St. Clair, who finished the night with three hits in three trips, drove in a pair of runs in the fourth. Matalasi Faapito added a double in the fifth.
Delainey Everett relieved Sosa in the fourth, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings. She struck out five and allowed just one batter to reach base. Hosanna Lindblade threw the final two innings. Also on the defensive side of the ball, Nadia Barbary made a diving catch on a liner at third base to open the second inning.
