SEC Releases 2024 Softball Schedule
September 20, 2023 | Softball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference released the league's 2024 softball schedule on Wednesday. Mississippi State will play eight three-game series against league opponents for a 24-game SEC slate.
Â
Conference play opens on March 8 as the Bulldogs will renew their in-state rivalry on the road against Ole Miss. State has played the Rebels for one of its first two SEC series in two of the previous three seasons. The teams did not play last year, but both the 2022 and 2021 meetings ended in sweeps for the home team. MSU brings in a four-game winning streak but has not won in Oxford since taking the first two games of the 2018 series.
Â
The Bulldogs will host Texas A&M on March 15-17 for their SEC home opener. MSU has won three of its last four SEC home openers dating back to 2019. State will then head back on the road to play at Arkansas on March 22-24. MSU leads the all-time series with the Razorbacks, 38-35.
Â
To close out the month, MSU will host Florida on March 29-31. The two teams did not play in 2023. In the 2022 series, Annie Willis tossed a complete game shutout in Gainesville to topple the then-No. 3 Gators, marking the first State shutout of a top-five team since 2014.
Â
April begins with a road trip to Columbia, South Carolina (April 5-7). State swept the Gamecocks in 2023, winning the games by a combined score of 19-7. MSU last traveled to Columbia in 2021, and that trip sparked a record streak. The Bulldogs won two of the final three games to kickstart a seven-game winning streak in SEC play. Historically, that series is one of the most even in the league, with the Bulldogs now holding a 35-33 edge.
Â
The reigning SEC Champions will visit Starkville on April 12-14 when MSU welcomes Tennessee to town. The Bulldogs have won three of the last four meetings in Nusz Park. The last time the teams played produced the longest game in SEC Tournament history as the Lady Vols claimed a 1-0 victory in 13 innings.
Â
State does not have a conference matchup the weekend of April 19-21. The Bulldogs final regular season road trip will take them to the second Columbia in the conference for three games at Missouri on April 26-28. MSU played the Tigers in the 2023 SEC Tournament, and the teams have split the last four games dating back to the 2022 season.
Â
To close the SEC schedule, MSU will host the other Bulldogs in the conference. Georgia will visit Starkville on May 3-5. The Bulldogs in maroon and white have a 16-14 record when the series is played in Nusz Park and have won three straight at home.
Â
This year's SEC Tournament will be hosted by Auburn at Jane B. Moore Field on May 7-11.
Â
Game times and television assignments will be announced at a later date. The schedule is subject to change, including the move of some conference series weekends to Saturday-Monday dates.
