#StateToTheShow: Athletes Unlimited Week 3

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Team Davidson posted a 2-1 record in Week 3 of Athletes Unlimited action, keeping Mia Davidson-Smith in the captain's chair another week. Davidson-Smith now ranks fourth overall with 1,052 points, which is just 228 points shy of her 2022 season total with two weeks still to play.
On Wednesday, Athletes Unlimited played its first championship season games outside of Rosemont, Illinois, traveling to Greensboro, North Carolina, the home of the Little League Softball World Series. Greensboro is also just two hours from Davidson-Smith's hometown, and the local legend made quite the impact in her first game as a captain.
Team Davidson won, 4-3, and Davidson-Smith herself took a run away from Team Romero in the first inning. As Morgan Zerkle tried to score on a would-be sacrifice fly, Davidson-Smith applied the tag at the plate. The runner was initially ruled safe, but Davidson-Smith used her captain's challenge to send the play to review where the call was overturned.
While she ultimately went hitless for the week, Davidson-Smith was hit by a pitch twice and drew a walk to reach base in every game. Her team had her back, however, collecting 200 of 360 available win points over the three games. In addition to her play at the plate in the first inning of the week, she also caught a pair of foul pop-ups in Sunday's final game.
Davidson-Smith continues to lead the league with three home runs, and her seven RBIs rank fourth. She has tied the Athletes Unlimited record with five hit-by-pitches this season, which also brings her into a tie for the championship season career record (9). Her seven career championship season homers are just one shy of cracking the all-time top 10, and when including her AUX totals, she's hit eight in 2023 alone.
Team Davidson (Purple) will play at 6 p.m. CT on Friday, August 18 against Team Alexander (Gold). That game will be broadcast on ESPNU. Davidson-Smith's team then plays Team Nickles (Orange) at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Team Urtez (Blue) at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The final two games will both air on ESPN2.
