Sosa Rounds Out State’s Roster
August 10, 2023 | Softball
STARKVILLE – Two-way transfer Lexi Sosa will join the Mississippi State softball program, head coach Samantha Ricketts announced on Wednesday. Sosa, a career .357 hitter who boasts a 1.58 career ERA in the circle, comes to Starkville from UCLA where she was a member of two Women's College World Series teams.
The San Diego, California, native began her collegiate career in the shortened 2020 season, going 4-0 with a 1.50 ERA as a freshman. She also threw the 18th perfect game in Bruins history that season. In the same game, she displayed her prowess with the bat, driving in four runs, including a solo shot for her first career homer.
"We are thrilled to add a veteran two-way player like Lexi to our bullpen and roster," Ricketts said. "She brings WCWS experience and added depth to our offense and our pitching staff. We are looking forward to her getting settled in with us in StarkVegas."
As a sophomore, Sosa went 2-0 in the circle, allowing five runs in seven appearances and holding opponents to a .173 batting average. The next year, opponents hit just .150 off her, and she did not allow a run in three outings while picking up her first career save.
"MSU was honestly the biggest blessing from God, and I am so thankful that Coach Ricketts and this amazing coaching staff allowed me the opportunity to chase my dreams once again," Sosa said. "From the incredible academic and athletics staff to the astonishing legacy that this MSU program has built, I knew that being a Bulldog would not only equip me as an athlete, but I would be given the chance to become the best version of myself on and off the field. This next journey at MSU is not just a dream come true for me, but this next journey is a shared accomplishment with my mom, family and the incredible individuals I've met along the way. I can't wait to join the party in Starkville."
Sosa did not play in 2023 and brings two years of eligibility to Starkville. For her career, she has struck out 21 percent of the batters she's faced and posted a career opposing batting average of .192.
