
Men’s Hoops Well Represented At NBA Summer League

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Mississippi State men's basketball will be well represented with seven players starting Friday as the 2023 NBA 2K24 Summer League turns its attention to Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion from July 7-17.
Reggie Perry and Craig Sword (Golden State Warriors) already saw summer league action earlier this week at the California Classic in Sacramento. The duo combined for 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting coupled with five rebounds and two steals in Monday's opener against the Kings.
Garrison Brooks (New Orleans Pelicans), Iverson Molinar (Milwaukee Bucks), D.J. Stewart (Washington Wizards) Quinndary Weatherspoon (Orlando Magic) and Robert Woodard II (Indiana Pacers) give the Maroon and White seven players at the event.
Tyson Carter (Phoenix Suns – 10.4 PPG), Perry (Los Angels Clippers – 11.4 PPG) and Weatherspoon (Golden State Warriors – 10.0 PPG) averaged double figures for their respective teams during last year's summer league.
A total of 76 games will be played over the 11-day competition with each franchise guaranteed five contests. The four teams with the best records from pool play will meet in the semifinals on Sunday, July 16 with the two winners advancing to the championship game on Monday, July 17 at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN. The remaining 26 franchises will play a consolation game on either Saturday, July 15 or Sunday, July 16.

Garrison Brooks | New Orleans Pelicans
Brooks, the son of MSU assistant coach George Brooks, posted 13.7 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game over 22 outings for the Westchester Knicks (New York Knicks) in the NBA G League last season. He amassed over 1,600 points and 1,000 rebounds between Mississippi State and North Carolina.
Iverson Molinar | Milwaukee Bucks
Molinar tucked away 10.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game over 22 appearances for the Wisconsin Hurd, the Bucks affiliate, during the 2022-23 NBA G League season. He racked up 1,279 points fueled by back-to-back 500+ point campaigns in 2020-21 and 2021-22 at Mississippi State. Molinar captured 2021-22 All-SEC First-Team honors and won the 2021-22 Bailey Howell Trophy.

Perry piled up 20.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists per contest over 24 appearances for the Motor City Cruise (Detroit Pistons) and Raptors 905 (Toronto Raptors) during the 2022-23 NBA G League campaign. He has played in 36 NBA games over a two-year span in 2020-21 and 2021-22.
At Mississippi State, Perry was the 2019-20 SEC Co-Player of the Year by the Associated Press, a consensus All-SEC First Team pick, a Bailey Howell Trophy recipient and a Karl Malone Award finalist. He totaled 868 points, 557 rebounds, 46 games in double figures and 26 double-doubles in his two seasons in Maroon and White.
D.J. Stewart | Washington Wizards
Stewart put together another solid all-around NBA G League campaign in 2022-23 with 21.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals for the Sioux Falls Skyforce (Miami Heat). He was a 2020-21 All-SEC Second-Team pick while at Mississippi State, and his two-year total of 792 points is just outside the program's top 10 for players following his sophomore season.
Craig Sword | Golden State Warriors
Sword made his NBA debut with the Washington Wizards in 2020-21 and has played five seasons in the NBA G League. Most recently, he came away with 7.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game over 29 outings for the Capital City Go-Go, the Wizards affiliate, in 2022-23.
At Mississippi State, Sword notched 1,492 points, 305 assists and 185 steals. All three marks ranked inside the program's top 15 whereas the 185 steals sit fifth. Sword was a 2015-16 All-SEC Second-Team pick and a 2012-13 All-SEC Freshman Team selection.
Quinndary Weatherspoon | Orlando Magic
Weatherspoon played overseas for the Tianjin Ronggang Pioneers in the Chinese CBA last season. He was a 2021-22 NBA Champion with the Golden State Warriors and has seen action in 42 games over three NBA seasons which also includes a stop with San Antonio (2019-20 & 2020-21).
At Mississippi State, Weatherspoon was an All-SEC selection during all four seasons (2015-16 Freshmen Team, 2016-17 & 2017-18 Second Team and 2018-19 First Team). He is one of three players to amass over 2,000 career points and sits among the program's top 10 in steals (201 – 3rd), field goals made (704 – 4th), free throws made (413 – 5th) and three-pointers made (187 – 7th). Weatherspoon (2018, 2019) and Jarvis Varnado (2009, 2010) are State's only two-time winners of the Bailey Howell Trophy.
Robert Woodard II | Indiana Pacers
Woodard II provided 12.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest in 31 games for the Oklahoma City Blue (Oklahoma City Thunder) during the 2022-23 NBA G League season. He played in 25 NBA games for the Sacramento Kings and San Antonio Spurs over the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. At Mississippi State, he registered 539 points and 342 rebounds in two seasons.
