July 01, 2023 | Softball
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State softball has added Jadyn Burney, a junior college transfer infielder from Chipola College, to its 2024 class.
Burney started in all but six games over the past two seasons at Chipola, posting a career .320 batting average and stealing 41 bases. She was also named to the Panhandle Conference All-Defense Team.
"We are looking forward to adding more homegrown talent to our roster with Jadyn Burney," head coach Samantha Ricketts said. "She is an all-around athlete and will provide depth and speed to our roster in numerous positions. Jadyn is hard working and focuses, and she will represent her state and our program with an immense amount of pride."
Burney played in 99 games with 98 starts at Chipola. As a sophomore, she led the team with 19 walks and posted a .406 on-base percentage. The Gulfport, Mississippi, native swiped 17 bags, which ranked third on the team. In her freshman season, Burney stole 24 bases and posted a .327 batting average. She ranked fifth on the team that year with 25 RBIs.
"Being originally from Mississippi, it's always been a dream for me to represent my State," Burney said. "Having Mississippi State across my chest means the world to me. Being able to wear the maroon and white is a huge accomplishment for me and my family. I'm just extremely excited to be a part of the Bulldog family."
Burney attended Harrison Central High School where her team won three district titles. She led the team in batting average all three years. As a senior, she was named the Sun Herald Player of the Year and an MHSAA Region II All-Star after posting a .547 batting average. Following a freshman year where she also hit .547 to lead the team, she was named an Under Armor Preseason All-American in 2019.
