Stratton Promoted to Assistant Coach
June 30, 2023 | Soccer
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State soccer head coach James Armstrong announced the promotion of Kat Stratton to Assistant Coach on his staff. After spending the previous two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach, Stratton is elevated to an assistant coach.
Â
"Kat Stratton has been an integral part of this program for the last three years," Armstrong said. "All of the goalkeepers have grown in all aspects of their game under her instruction. Kat has a tremendous work ethic, great moral character and all of our players will be thrilled to see that she has been given this opportunity that she has fully deserved. The moment this legislation passed, she was the only person we wanted to fill the position."
Â
Stratton, a native of Tupelo, joined coach Armstrong's staff on Feb. 18, 2020, as a volunteer assistant coach working with State's goalkeepers. In her time on staff, Stratton has helped guide State's goalkeeper to some of the best in the SEC. In 2022, She helped Maddy Anderson set multiple records in goal for the Dawgs, including the MSU record for saves in a season (9) and Goals Against Average (0.64). That same season she also helped Mississippi State finish with the most shutouts in a season (10) in school history.
Â
Stratton was a standout goalkeeper at the University of Alabama for five years and was named team captain as a senior. She earned Third Team All-South Region honors as a junior and finished third in the SEC in saves (91), fourth in save percentage (.805), fifth in saves per game (4.79) and seventh in both goals against average (1.14) and shutouts (5) that year.
