#StateToTheShow: AUX Week 1
June 16, 2023 | Softball
ROSEMONT, Ill. – After one week of play, Mia Davidson-Smith ranks fifth on the Athletes Unlimited AUX leaderboard with 454 points. She came just 16 points shy of a captaincy for Week 2 after she and Team Zerkle (Blue) went 3-1, setting multiple AUX records along the way.
The former Mississippi State Bulldog and the SEC's all-time home run leader had just two hits on the week, but appropriately both left the yard. She collected 154 stat points, the third-most of any player in the league, to go along with her team's 300 win points. Of her stat points, 80 came from her two home runs, while she accumulated 48 points on walks thanks to a league-leading six free passes.
Team Zerkle scored 30 of the league's 81 combined runs in the first week, averaging 7.5 runs per game. The blue squad hit an AUX single-game-record five homers in their second game of the week, a 10-7 victory over Team Mulipola (Orange). Davidson-Smith provided a blast in the record-setting effort, which also tied the Athletes Unlimited record overall as just four teams have launched five long balls in a game over the past three years.
Davidson-Smith also homered in her first at-bat of the season, helping Team Zerkle get off to a hot start on their way to a 9-7 victory against Team Garcia (Gold). The two-run homer left the bat with a 78.5 mph exit velocity and traveled 259 feet to straightaway center field.
In the record-setting game, Davidson-Smith launched a 3-2 pitch 278 feet to center field for a leadoff homer against Megan Faraimo. That ball left the bat at 81.2 mph, which was the fifth-hardest homer hit this week. She added a fourth RBI with a sacrifice fly in Team Zerkle's second win against Team Garcia on Thursday night.
Davidson-Smith currently leads the league in runs (5) and walks (6). She is second in homers and third in both on-base percentage (.588) and OPS (1.588).
In Week 2, Davidson-Smith is set to play with Team Leach (Gold) and open the week at 2:30 p.m. CT on Sunday, June 18 against Team Taylor (Orange). She will meet Team Filler (Blue) at 5 p.m. CT on Monday, June 19. The gold team closes the week with a doubleheader against the two opponents on Wednesday, June 21 beginning at 5 p.m. All four games will air on ESPNU.
