Brownlee, Cook, Malau’ulu Earn All-Region Honors

STARKVILLE – Three Mississippi State softball players earned All-Region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches' Associate (NFCA) on Thursday. MSU has had at least one all-region selection in every season since 2012 and multiple Bulldogs have been recognized in every year since 2015.
Aquana Brownlee earned second team honors after a breakout campaign that saw her lead the team in batting average and on-base percentage in SEC play. Chloe Malau'ulu earned third team honors, marking her second consecutive all-region award. Paige Cook also earned third team honors after leading State in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs, RBIs and homers.
Brownlee, who was awarded at first base, batted .310 for the year with a .932 OPS. Her OPS climbed to .940 in conference play and was an impressive 1.025 against teams that finished in the top 75 of the RPI. She started in all but one game and was tied for the team lead in hits. A native of Houston, Mississippi, Brownlee hit a career-high eight homers this year and collected 35 RBIs after having just 15 in the first three years of her career.
Malau'ulu, who earned her second career all-region nod as an outfielder, also led State in hits, and she posted a team-high eight doubles and four triples to go along with eight homers, which was tied with Brownlee for second on the team. In fact, 20 of her 45 hits went for extra bases. The Long Beach, California, native closed her career ranking ninth in MSU history in multi-hit games (51) and doubles (37) and 10th multi-RBI games (25). Her 21 career homers were one shy of the MSU all-time top 10. She threw out three runners from the outfield this season, bringing her career total to 18, which is second in school history.
Cook was recognized in the designated player/utility role. She ranked among the top 10 in the SEC in conference play in slugging percentage, home runs and sacrifice flies. The Cornelia, Georgia, native posted a 1.084 OPS for the year and struck out in just 5.2 percent of her plate appearances, which ranked third in the SEC. She led MSU in RBIs in league play (15) and went 7-for-8 on stolen bases this spring. She currently ranks 10th in career homers (22) and multi-RBI games (25) in MSU history.
