May 10, 2023 | Women's Golf
Westfield, Ind. – The Bulldogs have made history once again by winning the 2023 Westfield Regional Championship. With exceptional skill and unwavering determination, State was able to capture the regional title for the first time in program history after earning a three-round score of 19-Under Par (845).
On the final day of the tournament, the Bulldogs demonstrated their mettle by keeping their composure under pressure. Each player showcased their individual brilliance while remaining united as a team as everyone vied for a spot in the NCAA Championships. Late in the third round, Oregon State propelled their way up the leaderboard after sinking three eagles as a team to take a one-stroke lead on the Bulldogs. After being in a back-and-forth battle down the stretch, the Bulldogs remained up one with two holes left to play. State secured their triumph after Julia Lopez Ramirez birdied the seventeenth hole to create the deciding two-stroke lead.
Julia Lopez Ramirez and Hannah Levi led the way throughout the duration of the regional, occasionally battling each other on the leaderboard for the top spot. In the opening round, Levi carded a 68 (4-Under) while Lopez Ramirez carded a 67 (5-Under) to sit first and second with only one stroke separating the duo. After a pair of 66s from the sophomore/senior duo in round two kept them in first and second respectively on the leaderboard, a pair of 70s in the third round kept the gap between them at one stroke once again with Lopez Ramirez capturing the first individual regional championship for the Bulldogs with a 13-Under Par (203) performance for the event (the second-lowest 54-hole individual tally in program history).
Senior Hannah Levi secured her best tournament performance of her Bulldog career in the Westfield Regional, carding 12-Under Par (204) for the event to finish third. 204 is Levi's lowest 54-Hole tally with 12-Under Par being Levi's lowest 54 relative to par. Throughout the event, Levi also matched her lowest 18 ever, carding 6-Under Par (66) in the second round.
Freshman Izzy Pellot finished tied for 26 with 1-Over Par (217) for the event. In the final round, Pellot rolled in two birdies on the day to finish with 75. Pellot secured her second consecutive and 15th round overall of par or better golf in the second round to aid the Bulldogs through the event.
The Bulldogs will return to the course on May 19-24 for the 2023 NCAA National Championship from the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Championship play will be hosted by Arizona State and The Thunderbirds, with the final three days of the championships televised live by the GOLF Channel.
