Lopez Ramirez Named to ANNIKA Award Watch List
March 09, 2023 | Women's Golf
Columbus, Ga. – The Haskins Foundation announced Julia Lopez Ramirez to the ANNIKA Award Watch List on Thursday via GolfWeek and Golf Channel. Lopez Ramirez became the third Bulldog to be placed on the watch list last year, joining Jessica Peng and Ally McDonald in 2015. Lopez Ramirez is the first to be named to the list in back-to-back seasons in Mississippi State Women's Golf history.
Â
The ANNIKA Award Watch List recognizes players who have set themselves apart as frontrunners in women's college golf over the past two and a half months. The ANNIKA Award honors the most outstanding female collegiate golfer of the year, as selected by college golfers, coaches and members of the college golf media. The players selected onto the ANNIKA Award Watch List were selected by a panel of GolfWeek and Golf Channel reporters.
Â
Lopez Ramirez has had a very successful second campaign in Maroon and White. With so many performances to choose from this season, the UCF Challenge allowed Lopez Ramirez to shine the brightest. Â After yet another record-breaking performance to open up the Spring in the UCF Challenge, Lopez Ramirez was tabbed SEC Women's Golfer of the Week for the fourth time in her career. In the opening round, Lopez Ramirez rolled birdies on the first three holes of the back nine and would finish with nine in the round to card a 6-under par. 66 is tied for the third-lowest first-round in program history and the eighth-lowest round overall. Lopez Ramirez rolled birdies on six of the final nine holes of the round to shoot 64 (8-under par) in the second round. 64 is the lowest individual second round in program history and tied for the second-lowest individual round overall. Lopez Ramirez captured her third consecutive, and twenty-first total round in the 60s in the Maroon and White to lead State through the final round. Lopez Ramirez carded a 5-under (67) final round to finish second with 19-under par (197). 19-under par marks the lowest individual score in program history, breaking her own record of 16-under par (200) in the 2022 Paradise Invitational. 65 is the seventh-lowest final round in program history. Lopez Ramirez now sits only four spots back of the legendary Ally McDonald for most rounds in the 60s in a career (25).
