
State Bats Around Twice In 12-3 Run-Rule Of Tulsa

MOBILE, Ala. – Mississippi State scored early and often, batting around twice, in a 12-3 victory against Tulsa in five innings on Friday afternoon.

State (7-4) sent 10 batters to the plate in both the first and fourth innings, scoring four runs in both frames. The Bulldogs capitalized on Tulsa (7-6) mistakes throughout the day. The Golden Hurricane gave away a combined 21Â walks, hit-by-pitches, errors, wild pitches and passed balls. MSU drew 10 walks alone, despite collecting just five hits.

The first three Bulldogs reached base without a hit to open the game, and an error brought home the game's first run. State would score three more times in the frame on just two base hits. State got another run in the third with a pair of singles and walk.

The Bulldogs' last hit was a big one, however. Paige Cook hit a three-run homer in the fourth following a walk and a fielder's choice that was unsuccessful in retiring the lead runner. The Bulldogs then put another nine runners on base via the walk or an error, including a dropped third strike.

Won the Freebie War – State drew 10 walks, was hit by three pitches and took advantage of two errors … Tulsa also had five wild pitches and a passed ball … MSU, on the other hand, committed two errors but walked just one … the Bulldogs had one wild pitch to win the freebie war, 21-4.

Kiersten Landers – Beat out a bunt single and later scored … also brought home a run with a ground out.

Josey Marron – Struck out the side in the first … allowed two hits … threw just 45 pitches in 3.0 innings … boasts 0.69 WHIP over her last three outings … has won all four of her starts this year.

Brylie St. Clair – Walked and scored twice.

Macy Graf drew a leadoff walk and stole second on the next pitch. Brylie St. Clair also walked, and Chloe Malau'ulu was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Aquana Brownlee hit a grounder to third, but the throw across the diamond sailed, allowing her to reach second and also scoring St. Clair. Malau'ulu came home from third on Kiersten Landers' ground out to the pitcher, which advanced Brownlee to third. Paige Cook singled into center field to score Brownlee.

St. Clair led off with her second walk of the day. With one out, Brownlee hit a grounder to first. St. Clair beat a high throw to second to give State two runners on. Landers' ground out move the runners to second and third before Cook hit a three-run homer to left. Barbary then walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Pinch hitter Morgan Bernardini was hit by a pitch, and both runners then advanced on a passed ball. Riley Hull walked, and the ball got away from the catcher, allowing Barbary to score from third.

Celeste Wood drew a leadoff walk before pinch hitter Gracie Jarvis singled up the middle. The runners advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Faith Russell grounded out to first to score Wood and advance Jarvis to third. Abby Jones hit a pop up that was dropped in the infield, which allowed Jarvis to score.

With one out, Brownlee drew a walk. Saleyna Daniel pinch ran at first. With two outs, Cook walked, pushing Daniel to second. Barbary hit a fly ball into right-center field that was dropped, allowing Daniel and Cook to score. Barbary reached second on the play. She then advanced to third on a wild pitch and later scored when the ball escaped the catcher on Hull's strikeout.
