
Marron Tosses One-Hit Shutout In Run-Rule Of South Florida

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Josey Marron continued her impressive start to a career with a complete-game, one-hit shutout in a run-rule victory against South Florida. Marron struck out eight, one shy of her career high, in the 8-0 victory.
Paige Cook got the Bulldog bats going with a pinch-hit three-run homer to open the scoring in what would become a six-run fourth inning. The Bulldogs tacked on two more runs when Chloe Malau'ulu tripled to right-center field, and a fielder's choice from Kiersten Landers brought home another run before the frame ended.
In the fifth, the Bulldogs (6-3) added two more on a triple from Macy Graf and a base hit from Brylie St. Clair. Graf and St. Clair each collected three hits on the day. Graf needed just a home run for the cycle after doubling to begin the ballgame. She also stole a base.
Taking The Extra Base – MSU collected six extra-base hits (three doubles, two triples and a home run) … State has now hit eight home runs at the Clearwater Invitational … the Bulldogs are slugging .693 as a team in the tournament with 18 extra-base hits in four games.
Paige Cook – Delivered a pinch-hit, three-run homer to open the scoring and start State's rally in the fourth.
Matalasi Faapito – Drew a walk to extend her reached-base streak … has reached in all nine games this year.
Macy Graf – Went 3-for-4 with a double and triple … also stole a base … has reached base in all nine of MSU's games … now has a team-leading five multi-hit games in 2023.
Riley Hull – Doubled and scored in State's six-run fourth.
Chloe Malau'ulu – Tripled to bring home two runs … has a team-high four multi-RBI games on the year.
Josey Marron – Struck out seven in 5.0 innings of work … allowed one hit … now has three wins in three career starts … threw her second career complete game and MSU's first shutout of the year.
Brylie St. Clair – Went 3-for-4, including a bunt single … added an RBI and a run scored … it was her sixth career three-hit game and her first since playing South Florida in the NCAA Regionals last year.
Kat Wallace – Drew two walks in her second career start … game was her first start in the batting order after starting in the flex earlier this year.
Aquana Brownlee was hit by the first pitch of the inning. Riley Hull then doubled down the right field line, pushing Brownlee to third. Paige Cook entered as a pinch hitter and launched a three-run homer to left field. Kat Wallace then walked, but she was thrown out stealing second. Macy Graf and Brylie St. Clair hit back-to-back singles before scoring on Chloe Malau'ulu's triple to right center. After Matalasi Faapito walked, Malau'ulu scored when Kiersten Landers hit into a fielder's choice that retired the runner heading to second.

Nadia Barbary singled up the middle, but she was retired at second when pinch-hitter Jackie McKenna hit into a fielder's choice. Wallace re-entered to run for McKenna at first and scored on Graf's triple down the right field line. Graf then scored on a base hit from St. Clair.
