
Russell and Parson Earn SEC All-Freshman Honors

STARKVILLE – A pair of Mississippi State football freshmen, Donterry Russell and Chris Parson, have been named to the SEC Coaches All-Freshman Team in a vote by the 14 SEC head coaches.

Russell, a redshirt freshman from Jackson, Miss., played in 11 games, making five starts, in his debut season wearing the Maroon and White.

Russell's first career start came against Alabama on Sept. 30. In the contest, Russell recorded five tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He followed his strong start with another career effort against Western Michigan, totaling a season-best seven tackles with a QB hurry.

Russell concluded his redshirt freshman season with 19 tackles (11 solo and eight assisted), 4.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and three QB hurries.

Parson played in two games in his true freshman season while making one start. Parson made his collegiate debut on Nov. 4 when the Bulldogs hosted Kentucky for homecoming. He entered the contest in the third quarter, completing six passes for 67 yards.

Parson started his first career game a week later when Mississippi State traveled to Bryan-College Station, Texas, to take on Texas A&M. In his first start, he completed five passes for 36 yards while rushing for 11 yards.
