Class of 2024: Morgan Stiles
December 19, 2023 | Softball
STARKVILLE – A top-10 middle infielder, Morgan Stiles, signed with Mississippi State softball in November.
Â
The Athens, Alabama, native is considered the No. 15 prospect in the class by Extra Inning Softball and was also among the top 100 prospects in Softball America's rankings.
Â
"Morgan Stiles excels at everything she does, both on and off the field," head coach Samantha Ricketts said. "Her tool set is truly remarkable. She can hit for power, steal bases and play elite defense, but what truly sets her apart is her knowledge of the game and her mature approach. She will make an immediate impact to our team, and we are thrilled to add a player of her caliber and character to the program."
Â
Stiles won a state title at Athens High School in 2022, and her team finished as runners-up in 2023. She is a three-time First Team All-State and Tennessee Valley Select 20 honoree. She's also won the Athens High golden glove award three times.
Â
After starting her varsity career in seventh grade, Stiles led the team with a .474 batting average as a freshman while also pacing the squad in RBIs and slugging 17 home runs. The following season, she batted .479 and collected another 11 homers.
Â
Stiles was named the Alabama 6A Hitter of the Year after her junior season. She posted a .571 batting average, .642 on-base percentage, 23 home runs and 78 RBIs that year. She also swiped 23 bases and scored 101 runs on the season en route to an AHSAA North-South All-Star Team selection.
Â
"Starkville is a small town that feels like home," Stiles said. "The people are welcoming, and they put the student and person in front of the athlete. I cannot wait to be a part of such a great university."
Â
Stiles played travel ball for Alabama Sparks Elite, which won the Colorado 16U Supplemental Championships and finished seventh at The Alliance Fastpitch Nationals in 2022 with a 32-6 record for the year. That summer, Stiles hit .548 with 25 homers and 70 RBIs on the travel circuit. She stole 20 bases and was named to Extra Inning Softball's 16U All-Summer Team. In 2023, Stiles collected 67 RBIs while batting .548 and launching 18 home runs.
Â
Off the diamond, she played club soccer and was on her high school's volleyball team. She's a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club.
Â
Mississippi State softball signed nine student-athletes on National Signing Day on Nov. 8. State's class was ranked No. 15 by Extra Inning Softball. Six of the newcomers have been ranked by Extra Inning Softball as top 100 prospects, marking Rickett's largest number of top-100 prospects since taking over as head coach in 2020. The Bulldogs will continue to release an in-depth look at each signee throughout the month of December.
