Class of 2024: Taylor Troutman
December 14, 2023 | Softball
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State softball signed consensus top-10 recruit Taylor Troutman during the November signing period.
Troutman, an outfielder from Henderson, Kentucky, was tabbed the No. 8 player nationally by Perfect Game and No. 9 overall by Extra Inning Softball. She was also selected to the PGF Futures All-American Game and Triple Crown Futures All-American Game.
"Taylor Troutman is a powerful left-handed hitter that possesses the ability to drive the ball to all corners of the park," head coach Samantha Ricketts said. "As a fierce competitor with a background in high-level travel ball, her commanding presence both in the field and at the plate solidifies her status as one of the top players in the country."
Troutman holds Henderson County High School records for career RBIs and home runs, and she is inside the top 10 at the school in career batting average, hits, runs and triples. In her first three seasons, she's been name to the all-district team three times and the all-region team twice.
As a freshman, she launched 12 home runs on her way to a career-high 54 RBIs and an .802 slugging percentage. The following season she hit .436 with an .889 slugging percentage. That season saw Troutman collect 19 extra-base hits, including 11 homers, and 42 RBIs on her way to a Second Team All-State selection.
In 2023, Troutman was a First Team All-State honoree after posting a career-high 1.488 OPS as a junior. She hit .478 with a .930 slugging percentage, 12 home runs, 10 doubles and 53 RBIs.
"I picked State because of the feeling I had right when I stepped on campus for the first time," Troutman said. "After the first step, I haven't looked back. The people, the town and the program are something I can never forget."
Troutman played travel ball with Top Gun National, which landed among the top 10 in the U.S. club rankings in 2023. Her squad finished third at the Triple Crown National Championships and fifth in the Triple Crown Sparkler Power Pool. She hit .382 with 16 home runs, 12 doubles and 53 RBIs this summer.
Back in 2021, she hit .315 with a .425 on-base percentage and 12 extra-base hits. In her sophomore summer, she batted .339 with eight home runs and nine doubles.
Troutman also played volleyball in high school and was a three-time member of the Academic All-State Team.
Mississippi State softball signed nine student-athletes on National Signing Day on Nov. 8. State's class was ranked No. 15 by Extra Inning Softball. Six of the newcomers have been ranked by Extra Inning Softball as top 100 prospects, marking Rickett's largest number of top-100 prospects since taking over as head coach in 2020. The Bulldogs will continue to release an in-depth look at each signee throughout the month of December.
