December 11, 2023 | Soccer
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State Soccer has secured a place among the elite in collegiate soccer, as both United Soccer Coaches and TopDrawerSoccer have named them the consensus number 14 team in the nation. This dual recognition is a testament to the team's exceptional talent, dedication, and outstanding performance throughout the season.
The Bulldog squad's accomplishments have garnered recognition from both United Soccer Coaches, a highly regarded authority in collegiate soccer rankings, and TopDrawerSoccer, a leading source for college soccer news and analysis. Securing the consensus number 14 ranking not only signifies the team's inaugural inclusion in the season-ending rankings but also stands as the highest ranking in the program's history.
In tandem with this impressive ranking, the Mississippi State Soccer Staff was also named the 2023 NCAA Southeast Staff of the Year (SOY) by United Soccer Coaches, acknowledging their exceptional leadership and achievements during the historic 2023 season. Head Coach James Armstrong, Associate Head Coach Nick Zimmerman, Assistant Coach Brian Dunleavy, and Assistant Coach Kat Stratton played pivotal roles in guiding the Bulldogs to unprecedented success.
The coaching staff's impact was evident as the Bulldogs achieved historic milestones during the 2023 season, including the first-ever victory at Florida in program history, a remarkable back-to-back triumph over ranked opponents, and tying for the most single-season SEC wins. The team's defensive prowess was showcased by conceding the fewest goals in program history (14), and they reached the SEC Tournament Semifinals for the first time, securing back-to-back NCAA Tournament hosting opportunities as the highest seed in program history.
