
Mississippi State Back In Action To Host Kennesaw State On Monday

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's basketball hosts Kennesaw State inside Humphrey Coliseum on Monday at 6:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.Â

Monday will be the first-ever meeting between Mississippi State and Kennesaw State. Mississippi State is 15-0 all-time against current Atlantic Sun Conference members.Â

Mississippi State is back in action after an eight-day break over the end of the academic semester. The Bulldogs last played at Chattanooga on Dec. 3 and are 5-0 in contests following a week or longer break under head coach Sam Purcell.Â

Mississippi State enters the contest 18-3 at home and 12-1 at home against non-conference regular season opponents under Purcell. Mississippi State has now won 14 of its last 15 non-conference home games dating back to December 19, 2021.

Kennesaw State is 3-4 in its third season under head coach Octavia Blue through the initial portion of the schedule. The Owls boast a trio of double-digit scorers, led by 11.6 points per game from junior forward Prencis Harden.Â

The program will celebrate graduate student Lauren Park-Lane prior to tipoff after she surpassed 2,000 career points in the Chattanooga contest. Her 2,010 career points in Division I stands eight among active players, while her 759 career assists rank second.Â

Park-Lane has started to come into her own as a transfer in a new role, evident with her production over the most recent five-game stretch. She has scored in double figures in each of the five contests, in addition to recording 71 points and 42 assists compared to scoring in double figures once with 34 points and 19 assists in her first five with the team.Â

Park-Lane currently ranks 13th nationally with 61 total assists and 21st nationally with 6.1 assists per game as of Dec. 9. She is one of three players to rank in the top eight in terms of total assists each of the last three seasons.Â

Mississippi State has been one of the most disciplined teams defensively in the nation, ranking second nationally with only 11.3 fouls per game as of Dec. 8. Mississippi State is 7-1 when it records 10 or fewer fouls under Purcell – which it has accomplished three times this season.Â
Monday will be the first of a pair of home contests this week for Mississippi State. Mississippi State will welcome Jackson State on Thursday, Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. CT.Â
