Reunions And More Highlight Homecoming Weekend
November 03, 2023 | Football, Athletics
STARKVILLE – Reunions for a pair of legendary Mississippi State teams serve as two of the highlights for what will be an exciting homecoming weekend in StarkVegas.
Along with the Bulldogs' 6:30 p.m. Saturday football game against Kentucky, there'll be so much more for fans to look forward to.
Perhaps the most-anticipated happening will be the return of the iconic interlocking MSU logo to State's uniforms as the Bulldogs battle the Wildcats. In fact, the Dawgs will be sporting identical uniforms to the ones the 1998 State squad donned when the Bulldogs captured the Southeastern Conference Western Division championship 25 years ago.
But it's not just the uniforms that are returning. Many of the legendary Bulldogs who played in the 1998 SEC title game will also be back in Starkville, first for a Friday-night private reunion, then for a pregame recognition on Saturday.
Another iconic Bulldog squad will also be reunited over the weekend. Members of Mississippi State's 2013 national finalist baseball team are getting back together. That bunch of Diamond Dawgs will enjoy a Friday-night event of its own ahead of being recognized at Davis Wade Stadium on Saturday.
It's also M-Club Hall of Fame weekend in Starkville. Jay Powell, Sharon Fanning-Otis, Don Smith, Robert Bell, Jerry Jenkins and Edwina Denise (Anthony) Arnold will all be inducted at a Friday-night gala and will be recognized at halftime of Saturday's football game.
There'll be several other events and moments for Bulldog fans to look forward to as well. Among them, former tight end Reggie Kelly will be recognized during Saturday's contest as State's 2023 SEC Football Legend. Ahead of Saturday's football game, the Jason Miller Band will have The Junction rocking with a pregame performance at the Hail State Tailgate. The fun begins on Creelman Street at 2:30 p.m.
Of course, the main event of the weekend is State's tilt against Kentucky. It'll be first home contest for the Bulldogs in nearly a month.
