STARKVILLE – As part of Tuesday afternoon's SportsCenter coverage on ESPN, Tolu Smith was named as one of 50 finalists for the Wooden Award Watch List.

Smith added one last honor to his preseason list of accolades as the Wooden Award announced its preseason finalists on Tuesday. He is accompanied by Johni Broome (Auburn), Justin Edwards (Kentucky), Wade Taylor IV (Texas A&M) and Santiago Vescovi (Tennessee) from the SEC.

After being chosen for the Karl Malone Watch List which is awarded to the nation's top power forward in late-October, Smith found himself on the Naismith Trophy Watch List on Monday. He is one of seven SEC players on the list which features Trevin Brazile (Arkansas), Johni Broome (Auburn), Justin Edwards (Kentucky), Grant Nelson (Alabama), Wade Taylor IV (Texas A&M) and Santiago Vescovi (Tennessee).

Smith made it consensus All-SEC Preseason First-Team honors on Thursday from the league's coaches. State has had a player earn All-SEC Preseason First-Team by both the coaches and media in three of the last five seasons as Smith joins Reggie Perry (2019-20) and Iverson Molinar (2021-22).

The SEC media announced its All-SEC preseason teams and preseason poll on Tuesday. Smith tucked away another All-SEC First-Team selection, and the Bulldogs were picked to finish seventh in the media's preseason poll.

Smith is the only returning SEC player who was rank among the league's top 10 in points (15.7 – 8th) along with top 5 marks in field goal percentage (57.2 – 1st), rebounds (8.5 – 2nd) and double-doubles (12 – 2nd) last season.
For his career, Smith has amassed 1,210 points which sits 29th in program history, whereas his 679 career rebounds check in 16th in State's record book. He has drained 57.2 percent (448-of-783) of his field goal attempts which is 5th among MSU players to make at least 400 baskets.
Smith has secured 65 career outings in double figures and 25 career double-doubles. He has registered 12 of his 18 outings of 20 or more points against SEC competition with eight of his 10 performances of 20+ points and 10+ rebounds versus SEC foes.
