Macey Hodge and Maddy Anderson Earn All-SEC Honors
October 29, 2023 | Soccer
Birmingham, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference announced the SEC Awards for the 2023 soccer season on Sunday. As voted on by coaches from around the league, our dynamic captain, Macey Hodge, earned prestigious First Team All-SEC Honors at the midfielder position, while formidable goalkeeper and fellow captain, Maddy Anderson, earned Second Team All-SEC Honors.
Macey Hodge has been a driving force behind the Bulldog's success this season. Hodge's exceptional skills, leadership on and off the field, and unwavering dedication to the game have made her a standout performer on the pitch. Hodge's ability to control the midfield and distribute the ball with precision has earned her a well-deserved spot on the First Team within the SEC. Throughout the season, Hodge has consistently displayed her talent, contributing significantly and demonstrating the qualities of a true team leader. Throughout her career, Hodge has played in 69 games in the Maroon and White and is currently on a 68-game streak being named a starter. Hodge has amassed over 6,000 minutes in a Mississippi State uniform and is poised to continue her senior campaign in the postseason.
Maddy Anderson has been a stalwart in the Mississippi State goal, leading the school in shutouts with an impressive tally of 24 for her career. For the entire season, she has conceded a mere 11 goals, a testament to her exceptional goalkeeping prowess. Anderson now stands atop the SEC leaderboard in terms of shutouts this season, boasting nine clean sheets (or 11, including combined shutouts). Her exceptional performance also places her third in save percentage at .828 and goals allowed average, which stands at a mere 0.68. Additionally, she ranks fourth in the conference for the number of saves made, tallying 53 this season.
What truly sets Anderson apart is her ability to deliver shutouts, even on the road and against ranked opponents. The victory over No. 18 Kentucky was particularly noteworthy, as they were undefeated at the time and yet failed to score against Anderson's resolute goalkeeping. Equally impressive was the match against No. 16 Alabama, who boasted a formidable 28-game home unbeaten streak but could not find the back of the net against the indomitable Maddy Anderson.
Mississippi State will return to the pitch for the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament in Pensacola on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are matched up with the Crimson Tide of Alabama and are set to kick things off at 7:30 PM CT. Fans can tune into the SEC's flagship network for continuous coverage of the SEC Soccer Tournament.
