Davidson-Smith Selected To U.S. Pan American Games Roster
October 20, 2023 | Softball
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Mia Davidson-Smith will once again wear the red, white and blue as the former Mississippi State catcher was selected Team USA's 2023 Pan American Games roster.
Â
The United States will open the tournament on Oct. 29 against host-nation Chile at 2 p.m. CT. The team completes pool play with games on Oct. 30 against Venezuela and Nov. 1 against Mexico, both at 11 a.m. Bracket play is set for Nov. 2-3 with the medal games being held on Nov. 4.
Â
It is Davidson-Smith's third national team selection. She played with the Americans in last year's WBSC Pan American Championship in Guatemala and spent the summer competing in Ireland at the WBSC World Cup Group Stage.
Â
"To represent Team USA is honestly one of the highest honors in softball," Davidson-Smith said. I am truly thankful for Coach Tarr, Coach Baldwin, Coach Walton and Coach Bear giving me another opportunity to wear the red, white and blue. Go Eagles!"
Â
Team USA won gold at last year's Pan American Championship, and Davidson-Smith batted .412 with three home runs in the 2022 tournament. She drove in 13 runs in nine games while posting a .941 slugging percentage and a 1.586 OPS in Guatemala.
Â
Davidson-Smith then helped the Americans punch their ticket to next summer's WBSC World Cup, reaching base in every plate appearance as Team USA posted a 4-0 record in Ireland.
Â
Since softball was first introduced into the Pan American Games in 1979, Team USA has won nine gold medals – the most recent coming in 2019 – and two silver medals while posting a 100-5 record in its 11 appearances.
Â
Softball will return to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028. It will be the first time Team USA competes in Olympic softball on home soil since the sport was introduced at the 1996 Atlanta games. The Americans have won five Olympic medals and played in every gold medal game in Olympic history.
