State Slugs Way To 17-2 Exhibition Victory

STARKVILLE – The Bulldogs hit five home runs on Friday night as Mississippi State defeated Mississippi College, 17-2, in fall exhibition play.
Jessie Blaine and Nadia Barbary each homered twice while Aquana Brownlee delivered a grand slam. Blaine finished the night 2-for-2 with the pair of homers and four RBIs. Barbary went 3-for-3, also driving in four runs. Blaine was hit by a pitch in her third plate appearance and was named the team's offensive player of the game.
In addition to her grand slam, Brownlee tripled. Brylie St. Clair joined her in a multi-hit effort along with Salen Hawkins. Hawkins was named the defensive player of the game, turning a double play and recording four assists, two of which ended innings with runners in scoring position.
The Choctaws scored one run in the top of the first, but MSU answered with a five spot in the bottom of the inning thanks to two-run homers from Blaine and Barbary. Ella Wesolowski singled home Sierra Sacco after Sacco had stolen second.
Blaine led off the third with a home run to spark a five-run frame on four hits and an error. Two runs scored on that error before Hawkins doubled home another. Blaine later returned to the plate with the bases loaded and was hit by a pitch to make it 10-1.
Mississippi College got one run back in the top of the fourth, but the Bulldogs scored six in the bottom frame thanks to Brownlee's blast. Leilani Pulemau drove in a run in the sixth with a single to left field.
