Bulldog Men Prepare For Television Spotlight At Blessings Collegiate
October 01, 2023 | Men's Golf
Fayetteville, Ark. – After wrapping up the SEC Match Play event with a win against LSU last week, the No. 21 Mississippi State men's golf team will compete at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Oct. 2-4. Â
The tournament will be played on the par-72, 7,700-yard course at the Blessings Golf Club and hosted by Arkansas. The unique format of the three-day event will see MSU's men's and women's teams play side by side. Rounds will be televised live from 3:30-6:30 p.m. CT every day on the GOLF Channel.Â
 Â
The nine-school field features five men's teams who received votes in the Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll. State is also joined by three other SEC programs in the field including Kentucky, South Carolina and the Razorbacks.Â
Â
"This is a fun week for all of us. As a coach, I love this tournament because the Blessings is a great test of golf that requires focus and discipline every single shot," head coach Dusty Smith said. "We also get to all play in the same group which allows Coach Lapa and I to be very involved and see our entire team compete the whole week. This week is going to test our patience and our commitment to our process. It's important we have all five guys in it this week competing at our highest level."Â
The Bulldog men will tee of at 9:30 a.m. on Monday from the No. 10 tee, meanwhile the women are slated to start on the front nine at 10:45 a.m.Â
Â
The Mississippi State lineup returns to the same five as its season-opening roster at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. The Bulldogs will be represented by Hunter Logan, Garrett Endicott, Josep Serra, Harrison Davis and Pedro Cruz Silva.Â
Â
Logan, in the No. 1 spot for State, has shot par or better in five of his six rounds this year which leads the team. Four of those rounds have been in the 60s which is tied for the most on the team. He shot a career-low 11-under 199 to win the Visit Knoxville Collegiate and earn SEC Golfer of the Week honors earlier this fall.Â
Â
The No. 2 spot features Endicott, an honorable mention All-American a year ago as a freshman. He earned a 24th-place finish his last time out, notching 10 birdies over three rounds, bringing his total to 22 for the year. Endicott is one par or better round shy of cracking the top 15 in MSU career history.Â
Â
Serra will play in the No. 3 spot for the Bulldogs for the second straight week after a strong start to the fall. He shot the best round of his career in the final round of the SEC Match Play with a 6-under 65 and has earned back-to-back top-20 finishes this year. Â
Â
After a tournament off, Davis and Cruz Silva return to the lineup for their second tournament of the year. Davis shot a season-opening 69 at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. He carries a 71.67 stroke average early in the season, which would be the best of his career. Cruz Silva returns to action in the No. 5 spot after carding a 69 in his last round.Â
The Blessings Collegiate Invitational will award men's and women's individual medalists and men's and women's team champions, but the unique event also honors a combined team winner. The school whose men's and women's teams shoot the lowest combined total will take home combined champion honors. Â
