
Postgame Notes: MSU vs. No. 11 TCU

TEAM NOTES
- In a back-and-forth affair that featured 12 lead changes and seven ties, Mississippi State outlasted No. 11 TCU, 81-74, in overtime.
- It marked the Bulldogs first overtime game of the season and first under Chris Jans who improves to 5-1 in overtime contests as a head coach.
- The Maroon and White captured their third NCAA NET Quad 1 victory of the season. State is one of four teams nationally who are undefeated with multiple NCAA NET Quad 1 non-conference wins (Arizona, Connecticut, Purdue).
- It marked the program's first win over a non-conference ranked opponent since a 67-57 victory over No. 15 Arizona on 11/18/2011.
- The win over No. 11 was State's highest ranked win going back to a 54-45 win over No. 5 Oklahoma on 12/28/2002.
- Five Bulldogs scored in double figures, and two Bulldogs compiled double-doubles for the first time in 2022-23.
- Mississippi State passed out a season's best 23 assists on 29 made field goals. The 23 assists are tied for the fifth-most for a Coach Jans team. Â
- The Bulldogs sank 20 of their 29 field goals on the interior for a 40-30 advantage in paint points. State has outscored its opponents in paint points in 14 of 21 games this season.
- The Bulldogs outrebounded TCU by a 42-33 margin. State improves to 11-2 this year when defeating their opponents in the battle of the boards.
- State blocked seven shots which matched the team's second-best total of the season. Â
- The Maroon and White's first big offensive push came over the first 5:35 of the contest as the Bulldogs fired out to a 10-3 advantage on a Tyler Stevenson dunk.
- A Dashawn Davis triple gave State its largest lead at 23-11 with 7:14 remaining. However, the Horned Frogs pulled within 31-25 at halftime.
- The two teams played within four points of each other over the final 18:00 minutes of regulation.
- TCU went ahead 47-43 with 11:15 to go and carried a 60-56 edge with 4:32 left. The Bulldogs turned to Davis down the stretch who scored eight of the team's last 10 points of regulation to send the game to overtime at 66-66.
- Shakeel Moore drained back-to-back three's 52 seconds apart during the opening moments of the extra session to kickstart a 15-4 spurt.
- As a team, the Bulldogs connected on 29-of-58 from the floor (50.0 percent), 7-of-24 from three-point territory (29.2 percent) and 16-of-23 from the free throw line (69.6 percent).
- Conversely, TCU was 27-of-68 on its shot attempts (39.7 percent), made 6-of-27 of its triples (22.2 percent) and were 14-of-20 at the charity stripe (70.0 percent). Â
- The 50.0 field goal percentage was State's second-highest shooting clip this season.

Tolu Smith
- Matched his career-high with 27 points on 11-of-13 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds.
- Compiled 9 of his 14 career games of 20+ points versus SEC opponents.
- Moved to within 22 points of becoming the 6th MSU player since 2017-18 and 42nd player overall to reach 1,000 career points.
- Amassed his sixth double-double of 2022-23 and his fourth in his last five contests. Â
- Tallied 19 career double-doubles and seven career outings of 20+ points and 10+ rebounds.
- The 11 field goals made equaled a career-high.
- Distributed five assists and registered a career-high four blocks.
- Marked his third career outing with 5+ assists and his 12th career performance with multiple blocks.
- Chipped in six points, six rebounds and two assists.
- Drew to within 30 points from reaching 1,000 for his career
