#StateToTheShow: Athletes Unlimited Week 5
August 29, 2022 | Softball
ROSEMONT, Ill. – Mia Davidson and DJ Sanders both homered on the final day of the Athletes Unlimited season, hitting two-run shots to give both of their teams 3-0 leads in the bottom of the first in back-to-back games.
Sanders climbed the leaderboard with 368 points in the final weekend to finish 13th overall on the leaderboard. Davidson closed her rookie campaign with a 1,280-point showing to place 21st.
The catcher from Hillsborough, North Carolina, showed off her versatility over three games. Davidson played every infield position in her time in Starkville, but never went to the outfield. That changed on Saturday, and she proved her captain right with a diving catch in right field to end an inning.
On Sunday, she played first base and recorded eight putouts to go along with her homer. She opened the weekend with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to bring home a run.
Meanwhile, Sanders brought home a run and directly led to a second in her team's Saturday action. With the bases loaded, she hit into a fielder's choice as the runner headed to second was retired. In the process, the runner from third scored, and the runner on second never slowed down as she rounded the base to steal home.
Davidson finished the year ranked sixth in the league in OPS (1.184), while tying for fifth in homers (4), tying for fourth in walks (11) and leading her peers with four hit-by-pitches. Seven of her 10 hits on the year went for extra bases, leading to a .694 slugging percentage that was seventh in the league.
