Sharp Named To Rimington Trophy Watch List

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's redshirt senior LaQuinston Sharp was one of 40 centers in college football selected to the 2022 Rimington Trophy Preseason Watch List on Friday. The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football.
According to the Rimington Trophy's selection committee, the committee worked with Pro Football Focus (PFF) to narrow its list to the top centers. While more than a dozen All-America teams are selected annually, the Rimington Trophy committee uses these three prestigious teams to determine a winner: Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News, Football Writers Association of America.
Sharp received an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA last December and will return to MSU for a sixth season of college football. He made the switch to center last offseason and started every game for the Bulldogs in 2021. He was selected as SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week following the win over No. 12 Kentucky and earned an honorable mention on Pro Football Focus' All-SEC team.
Last season, Sharp earned a career-best 83.8 percent pass blocking grade from PFF. He surrendered only two sacks in 786 passing snaps.
Sharp is a native of Columbus, Miss., and a graduate of Mississippi State University.
