Arop Reaches Second Career World Championships Final

EUGENE, Ore. – For the second time in his young professional career, Marco Arop will run in the men's 800m final at the World Championships.

The Canadian has shuffled tactics lately, and his new approach was on full display in the last of three semifinals on Thursday night. Arop waited patiently near the back of the back of the pack for the first 400m before making his move on the backstretch of the bell lap.

Arop was passed as he glided home to the line by Algerian Slimane Moula, but he was comfortable through to the final as one of two automatic qualifiers with a considerable gap over the third-place runner.

The two-time NCAA runner-up actually ran slower in the semis on Thursday than in qualifying on Wednesday night. He clocked in at 1:45.12, which was the No. 2 time across all three semifinals.

Arop will toe the line for the final at 8:10 p.m. CT on Saturday. He will be one of four former Bulldogs in action that day.

American Tiffany Flynn will be the final Bulldog to open competition when the women's long jump preliminary rounds begin at 2 p.m. Javelin throwers Anderson Peters and Curtis Thompson will throw in their final at 8:35 p.m. Peters is the reigning world champion in his event.
