Four Dawgs Earn All-SEC Honors
June 01, 2022 | Track & Field
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After four top-three finishes at the SEC Outdoor Championships, Mississippi State's Navasky Anderson, Shayla Broughton, DJ Jónsson and Asia Poe have all been named to the All-SEC list. The two SEC champions, Anderson and Jónsson, earned First Team honors for their gold-medal performances in the 800-meter and javelin, respectively. On the women's side, both Broughton and Poe earned Second Team honors for finishing silver-bronze in the women's heptathlon.
Â
For the Kingston, Jamaica native, Anderson's 1:45.89 gold-medal run not only became a new personal best for the Bulldog, but also became a new facility record at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex. Jónsson, meanwhile, became only the second Bulldog in men's program history to win the javelin event in back-to-back seasons after his 76.39m throw.
Â
Broughton and Poe's performance on the opening day of the heptathlon helped propel the duo to the podium after each Bulldog won the first two events (Broughton – 100mH, Poe – High Jump). From there, the duo finished as low as seventh in the remaining events. Their performance on the hep's final day helped secure the second-and-third-place finishes for the Maroon and White.
Â
Both Anderson and Jónsson will represent MSU in Eugene, Oregon, for the National Championships (June 8-11).
