STARKVILLE – After winning the Southeastern Conference's H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, Mississippi State redshirt senior receiver Austin Williams' tremendous achievement is on full display in his hometown.
A billboard recognizing Williams is now up in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. It will run from May 31 through June 3.
The McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is considered the highest academic honor for a student-athlete in the SEC. The league's male and female winners are each presented with a $20,000 postgraduate scholarship.
Williams has shined both in the classroom and as a player throughout his time at Mississippi State. He holds an undergraduate degree in business administration/finance, as well as a master's in business administration. Currently, Williams is working towards his third academic degree. He has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout his time in Starkville.
Additionally, Williams is a five-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and a five-time selection to the MSU's President's List and Bulldog Honor Roll. He's a two-time CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American. Other honors have included being named a semifinalist for both the Wuerffel Trophy, which is present annually to the college football player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement, as well as the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award, which is given each year to a player who displays tremendous leadership on and off the field. Williams also represented State on the 2021 SEC Community Service team.
Athletically, Williams heads into his final season of eligibility in 2022 looking to cap off what has been an incredibly strong Bulldog career in which he has played in 50 games, totaling 116 receptions for 1,245 yards and 12 touchdowns. Since 2019, Williams owns the lowest drop rate of any SEC wide receiver at just 0.9 percent.
Williams enters his last campaign on the heels of a career year. Last season, he set new personal season highs with 52 catches for 617 yards and four scores.
