Wesley Shuts Out No. 2 Florida State, Forces Game 7

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – There will be seven games in the Tallahassee Regional after Aspen Wesley shut out No. 2 Florida State to extend Mississippi State's season.

The Bulldogs (36-25) claimed a 5-0 victory as Wesley allowed just two hits and three baserunners. It marked the first time in program history that MSU shut out an NFCA Top 3 team and its first Top-3 win since 2016.

Mia Davidson got things started with a solo homer in the third, and Paige Cook brought a runner home with a ground out later in the frame.

In the sixth, State extended its lead over the Seminoles (54-6) on a single from Jackie McKenna, a bases-loaded walk from Madisyn Kennedy and Riley Hull's sacrifice fly.

The win snaps Florida State's 24-game regional winning streak, which was the longest active streak in the nation. The Seminoles were one of three teams entering the day that had not allowed a run in regional play this year.

Quick Hitters

Reaching the Regional Final – Mississippi State has now reached Sunday, playing in the regional final, in each of the last four NCAA Tournaments, dating back to 2019 … this marks the second time in that span that MSU has done so despite losing its first game of the tournament … the Bulldogs will play five games in the tournament for the first time in program history.

Taking Down No. 2 – The Bulldogs claimed their first NFCA Top 3 victory since a 6-3 win over then-No. 3 Auburn on March 19, 2016 … the Bulldogs shut out a Top 3 team for the first time in program history … it marks State's first win over No. 2 in program history and third against the Top 2 … State snapped a 24-game regional winning streak for FSU.

Paige Cook – Drove in a run with a ground out.

Mia Davidson – Hit career homer No. 91 to take sole possession of fifth in NCAA history.

Chloe Malau'ulu – Went 2-for-3 for her team-leading 17th multi-hit game of the year.

Aspen Wesley – First Bulldog pitcher to shut out a Top 3 team in program history … allowed just two hits and struck out three.

With one out, Mia Davidson hit a solo home run. Shea Moreno then walked and went first-to-third on Chloe Malau'ulu's single. A ground out from Paige Cook scored Moreno.

Malau'ulu led off with a single and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Cook. Cook was safe at first when the throw was dropped. Jackie McKenna singled through the right side to score Malau'ulu and advance Cook to second. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before Matalasi Faapito walked to load the bases. Madisyn Kennedy also walked to bring home Cook. Riley Hull then hit a sacrifice fly to score McKenna from third.

Mississippi State forced the if-necessary game against the Seminoles. The Bulldogs will be the visiting team for a 3:50 p.m. CT first pitch from Tallahassee.
