NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Mississippi State men's golf saw its 2021-22 campaign come to an end on Wednesday, as the Bulldogs missed the cut at the New Haven Regional.
Â
"It certainly was not the week we wanted but I know we are going to take the positives from the week and learn how to handle this tournament a little better in the future," head coach Dusty Smith said. "Our guys never quit this season, and I could not be prouder of this team."
Â
"I can't thank Benjamin Nelson enough for his dedication to this program," Smith continued. "We are certainly going to miss him next season. He made this program better. I know we are a hungry team that wants to take the next step. As a program, we gained our identity and built a culture that will last."
Â
State finished the day with a team score of 280 for an overall 54-hole score of 860. MSU placed 11th for the event at the Yale Golf Course.
Â
Ruan Pretorius paced the team throughout the regional and ended his NCAA debut with a 1-under score tied for 21st, his second-best finish of the season. Pretorius tacked on 13 birdies throughout 54 holes.
Â
Hunter Logan and Harrison Davis both finished tied for 50th. Davis secured four birdies in the final round including a pair of back-to-back birdies on Holes 15 and 16, while Logan secured an eagle on Hole 16.
Â
Ben Nelson, who substituted in for the last round of competition, shot 4-over for his final round in the Maroon and White. Ford Clegg rounded out scoring for the Bulldogs tied for 67th.
