Eric Reed Jr. Signs With Men’s Hoops

STARKVILLE – Eric Reed Jr. is the latest addition to the Mississippi State men's basketball program to have his Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) paperwork processed.
Reed Jr., a 6-2 guard from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is a graduate transfer. He spent the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons at Southeast Missouri after he played his freshmen and sophomore campaigns at Howard College in Texas.
"Eric Reed Jr is a wonderful addition to our basketball program," head coach Chris Jans said. "Eric possesses a high-level work ethic and a passion for his craft. Eric's ability to make shots and be a willing defender will make us a better basketball team next season.
Reed Jr. garnered an All-Ohio Valley Conference First-Team pick and a National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) All-District 18 Second-Team selection in 2021-22. He started in 51 of 57 career games for the Redhawks where he piled up 779 points sparked by 36 games in double figures, 14 outings of 20-plus points and a pair of 30-plus point performances.
Reed Jr. connected on 132 three-pointers on a 40.1 percent ratio. The 132 treys ranked inside the program's top 10 in just two seasons. He drained multiple treys on 37 occasions and hit five-plus three-pointers in eight games.
Reed Jr. was the only Ohio Valley Conference player to rank among the league's top 10 in points (16.1 – 6th), free throw percentage (81.5 – 3rd) and three-point percentage (36.2 – 10th) last season. He upped his scoring average to 17.3 points per game which was third on the OVC's list and was a two-time OVC Player of the Week during league play.
Reed Jr. came away with 11 of his 14 games of 20-plus points last season. His top scoring performances were 35 points at Tennessee Tech (Feb. 17) and a 34-point effort versus Austin Peay (Jan. 1). Southeast Missouri amassed a 10-4 record when Reed Jr. eclipsed 20-plus points.
Reed Jr. was a 2019-20 Region All-Conference honoree after he posted 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game at Howard College. He won three state titles and was a two-time State Tournament Most Valuable Player during his prep career at University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
