Emerson Selected By Cleveland Browns In Third Round Of NFL Draft

STARKVILLE -- One of the top cornerbacks in the SEC over the last three seasons, Mississippi State's Martin Emerson was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft on Friday with the 68th overall pick.

Emerson, from Pensacola, Florida, was a three-year starter with the Bulldogs and recorded 16 career pass breakups and one interception.

Emerson, a two-time first team Academic All-District student, picked up All-America honors from PFF in 2020 and All-SEC honors from the outlet in 2021. He graded as the No. 7 cornerback in the FBS and No. 3 in the SEC in coverage grade (82.9) by PFF in 2020. He led the SEC in pass breakups per PFF in 2020 with 11 and racked up 16 coverage stops in 2021.

Emerson posted the second-high PFF coverage grade in the SEC since 2000 at 89.6.

At 6-foot-2 and 201 pounds, he's one of the tallest cornerbacks in the draft class and has the type of frame that projects well at the NFL level.
