Lopez Ramirez, Stockett Lead Bulldogs Through Second Round in the SEC Championship

HOOVER, Ala.– The Mississippi State women's golf team used the second round of the SEC Championship to climb up the leaderboard. The Bulldogs used key performances from Julia Lopez Ramirez and Blair Stockett to finish the day in eighth place with a two-day total of 17-over (593).
Lopez Ramirez, who started the day in 42nd, went even on the front nine before making the turn and turning in a stellar back nine performance that propelled her up the leaderboard into fourth place after the second round. Lopez Ramirez sunk five birdies in her final nine holes for a 5-under par (67) round to bring her two-day total to 1-under (143). 5-under in the second round is the fourth-lowest second-round score in school history.
Stockett sunk 14 pars and added two birdies on the day to finish 1-under par (71) in the second round to finish tied for 11th. Stockett jumped up the leaderboard on day two after being tied for 33rd in the first round.
"It was a much better approach today, head coach Charlie Ewing said. "We knew what we had to do. Blair [Stockett] and Julia [Lopez Ramirez] both brought the best versions of themselves. I think that the whole team did a much better job with that today. It was great for them to lead the way for us to secure some under-par rounds."
Ashley Gilliam also used the second round to climb up the leaderboard three spots from 33rd to tie for 30th with a second-round score of 2-over (74) to bring her two-day total to 5-over (149). Gilliam parred seven holes in a row from Holes 1-7 and has sunk the third-most birdies in the event with 26.
The junior duo of Hannah Levi and Abbey Daniel rounded out the scoring for State. Levi climbed up the leaderboard four spots from 64th to tie for 60th with a second-round score of 4-over (76) to bring her two-day total to 12-over (156). Daniel is tied for 64th after round two with a score of 14-over (158).
Due to expected inclement weather in the Hoover area, Friday's third round has been changed from tee times to a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Match play, originally scheduled to begin on Saturday for the top eight teams following three rounds of stroke play, will also be moved up and will now start on Friday afternoon. More details on the semifinals and final will be released when it becomes available.
The top eight teams after Friday will advance to match play Saturday and Sunday. The semifinals will be held Saturday afternoon to determine the finalists for Sunday's championship match.
