Purvis Powers Her Way To SEC Co-Player Of The Week
March 29, 2022 | Softball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State's Addison Purvis has been named the SEC Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. It is her first career weekly honor from the league.
The sophomore from Sullivan, Missouri, batted .750 (6-for-8) across three starts last week and posted a 1.875 slugging percentage. Purvis drove in seven runs with three doubles and a pair of homers.
Purvis opened her week by turning in her first career multi-homer game, hitting a three-run and a two-run shot at Memphis as the Bulldogs tallied a school-record six long balls. She was 2-for-2 with a walk in that contest.
Then on Saturday, Purvis played a key role in scoring all four of MSU's runs in a doubleheader sweep of Samford. In Game 1, her hits led to two runs once she was replaced for a pinch runner. In Game 2, it was her two-run double in the bottom of the sixth that proved the difference in a come-from-behind victory.
Purvis was a perfect 3-for-3 with runners on base over the week and was 3-for-4 with two outs.
She's now batting .438 on the year, which would lead the team if she had the minimum number of plate appearances, and slugging .813 with a .571 on-base percentage.
Mississippi State (22-10, 4-2 SEC) will travel to Middle Tennessee (Mar. 30) and No. 11 Tennessee (April 1-3) this week. The Bulldogs have won six straight and 12 of their last 15 contests.
