Bulldogs, Lopez-Ramirez Lead Westbrook Invitational Heading into Final Round

PEORIA, ARIZ.– The Mississippi State women's golf team returned to the course in their second event of the spring on Sunday. After 36 holes, MSU is leading both as a team and individually.

The No. 32 Bulldogs, competing on the par-72, 6,230-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club, used a very strong second-round score of 282 to climb up to the leaderboard to finish the day at 9-under par.

"We were in a similar position heading into the final round in the last tournament," head coach Charlie Ewing said. "A couple of weeks ago we were more hopeful than anything. Now I feel like we are comfortable with where we are at. Winning is very hard, but just because it is hard doesn't mean that is something that we cannot do as a team."

State was led by strong individual performances from Julia Lopez Ramirez, Ashley Gilliam, and Blair Stockett.

Julia Lopez Ramirez picked up where she left off after winning her previous start. Lopez Ramirez used a strong second round of 68 to bring her score to 7-under (137) after 36 holes to finish tied for first.

In her first appearance of the spring season, Ashley Gilliam used a strong first-round score of 70 to climb up the leaderboard early Sunday. After sinking 6 birdies on the day, Gilliam finished tied for 11^th heading into the final round.

Blair Stockett sunk an eagle on hole 8 in the first round and never looked back as she finished the day tied for 15^th with a score of 1-under.

Rounding out the scoring for MSU is the duo of Hannah Levi and Ana Pina Ortega. Levi finished the day 2-over par while Pina Ortega finished 3-over to finish tied for 33^rd and 38^th respectfully.

The final round of the Westbrook Invitational will be Monday morning with an 8:30 AM shotgun start. Mississippi State will pair up with UNLV and Nebraska in the final round.
