MSU Kid Coach - Rhett Cooper
February 24, 2022 | Men's Basketball
Kid Coach is a partnership between Children's of Mississippi and the Mississippi State Bulldogs to salute pediatric patients. Their inspirational stories remind us just how truly courageous these young people are.
This week's Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach is Rhett Cooper of Starkville.
Rhett had an eye infection that was not responding to oral antibiotics, and things got really complicated. As his care team tried to find one that worked, they discovered Rhett was allergic to almost all antibiotics. Eye infections can spread into the brain and become extremely dangerous. It was critical to get the infection under control quickly.
It took a lot of trial and error to find the right antibiotic. Rhett stayed at Children's of Mississippi for a week while his entire care team, including everyone from students to nurses to doctors, invested themselves in identifying the best one.
Meanwhile, Rhett got to be just a kid. He made a slide out of the couch cushions in the playroom and loved walking the halls to visit the many friends he made during that week. His entire family remains thankful for the care and love they experienced at Children's of Mississippi.
Fortunately, treatment was successful and today, Rhett is healthy and active. He likes to build things, ride his bike and hoverboard, play baseball and do karate.
Have fun at the game, Rhett! Your friends at Children's of Mississippi are cheering for you!
