MSU Kid Coach - Shaw Coats

Kid Coach is a partnership between Children's of Mississippi and the Mississippi State Bulldogs to salute pediatric patients. Their inspirational stories remind us just how truly courageous these young people are.
This week's Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach is Shaw Coats of Starkville.
When Shaw was just 17 months old, he became dangerously sick with both flu and RSV. When his lungs filled with a significant amount of fluid, his doctors had him rushed to Children's of Mississippi for emergency surgery. Pediatric surgeons inserted two chest tubes to drain the fluid and take the pressure off his lungs. He remained in the hospital for 11 days recovering from surgery and fighting fever. Shaw was discharged on Valentine's Day five years ago.
Shaw, now age 5, recovered completely. He is a healthy, happy boy who likes playing with Legos and hunting with his dad.
