Bulldogs Drop Third Game To No. 3 UCLA
February 12, 2022 | Softball
IRVINE, Calif. – Mississippi State softball closed its time at the Mark Campbell Invitational with an 8-0 loss to No. 3 UCLA on Saturday. The Bulldogs collected four hits including a pair of doubles.
Â
In the top of the second, State opened the frame with a pair of singles but left the runners stranded on second and third. Madisyn Kennedy doubled with two outs in the fourth, and Brylie St. Clair doubled in the fifth.
Â
"Today was another good learning opportunity, and throwing the team into the fire was always part of the plan," head coach Samantha Ricketts said. "We know we're going to take our lumps, and we're doing it in preparation for conference play. Although it might not have shown on the scoreboard, just the growth in the conversations, the plans, the thought processes going on behind the scenes were already improved from the day before. That was ultimately the goal when we're looking at a daily process of improving and competing every day."
Â
Aspen Wesley tossed two innings in relief, allowing two runs with only one earned. Kenley Hawk pitched the final frame, allowing one earned run.
