Rogers leads the nation in completions per game and ranks first in the SEC in passing yards and passing touchdowns.
STARKVILLE – For the second consecutive year, Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers has been named one of 11 finalists for the Manning Award, it was announced by the organization on Friday (Dec. 2).
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that takes the candidates' bowl performances into consideration in its balloting.
In its first 18 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 13 different schools and from four different conferences. The Southeastern Conference (Bryce Young, Joe Burrow, Mac Jones, Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton, JaMarcus Russell and Tim Tebow) leads the way with seven Manning Award honorees.
Through 12 games this season, Rogers leads the nation in completions per game (32.17), while he ranks first in the SEC in passing yards (3,713), passing touchdowns (34) and points responsible for (204). Rogers will enter the bowl game averaging 309.4 passing yards per game and is 386-of-566 passing this season.
Rogers also broke several MSU career records this season previously held by Dak Prescott. The junior now sits atop the record book in career passing touchdowns (81) and passing yards (10,428), while he also set a new SEC career record for career completions (1,130) earlier this season.
The winner of this year's Manning Award will be announced in January following the conclusion of bowl games.
