Class of 2023: Megan Davidson

STARKVILLE – A standout, in-state catching prospect, Megan Davidson signed with Mississippi State softball in November.
Davidson, out of Madison, Mississippi, is considered the nation's No. 48 prospect nationally by Extra Inning Softball and the No. 18 catcher in the class.
"We are excited to keep Megan in state and wearing maroon and white like both of her parents before her," head coach Samantha Ricketts said. "Megan is another strong utility player for us that contribute both behind the plate and in the infield. She stood out immediately to our staff with the energy, leadership and communications skills she brings and how she never takes a pitch off. Her intangibles along with her elite skills on the field make her an excellent addition to our program."
Davidson prepped at St. Joseph Catholic school where she played on the varsity team beginning in seventh grade. Her freshman season was cancelled by Covid-19, but as a sophomore she posted eye-popping numbers, batting .501 with a .614 on-base and .914 slugging percentage.
Her junior year was cut short by an injury, but she made an impact in her limited action. In just nine games, she belted three homers, four triples and five doubles with a .772 batting average. Davidson kept it up as a senior, batting .660 over a full campaign with a 1.991 OPS and 32 RBIs.
"Megan is a young lady that bleeds maroon," associate head coach Tyler Bratton added. "A bona fide leader behind the plate and in the middle of the infield, she makes everyone around her better. Her strength, toughness, versatility and bat speed will be a great addition to our team, and we are excited to welcome one of the best players in the state to our locker room."
Davidson's resume includes All-Region MVP honors in two separate seasons, a district MVP selection and a spot on the MAIS Fastpitch All-Star Team. She played travel ball for the Alabama Thunderbolts and Alabama Hotshots, a program that won the USA Junior Olympic Cup in 2021. Davidson batted .511 with a .565 on-base and .880 slugging percentage while driving in 51 runs on the travel circuit in 2021. She followed that season with a 43-RBI campaign and a .793 slugging percentage.
"MSU truly is my home away from home." Davidson said. "The atmosphere, the fans, the people and, most importantly, the coaching staff make me feel at home. I can't imagine spending my next four years anywhere else."
Mississippi State softball signed five student-athletes on National Signing Day on Nov. 9. State's class was ranked No. 10 by Extra Inning Softball, the highest-ranked class under Ricketts. Every player was ranked among the nation's top 100 by Extra Inning Softball. The Bulldogs will continue to release an in-depth look at each signee throughout the month of December.
