Bulldogs Get Bowl Eligible With Overtime Win Over Auburn

STARKVILLE – After playing a postseason game in each of the last 12 seasons, Mississippi State is bowl eligible once again following a 39-33 overtime victory over Auburn on Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium.
Jo'quavious Marks punched in the game-winning score for the Bulldogs with a five-yard run in the extra period. Marks' touchdown put a lid on a wild night in Starkville.
Mississippi State controlled the game in its early stages. The Bulldogs built a 24-3 lead for themselves by the middle of the second quarter and were ahead 24-6 at halftime.
State shined in all phases in the first half. Offensively, quarterback Will Rogers became the MSU career leader in both touchdown passes and passing yardage to help State pad its advantage. Lideatrick Griffin notched his second career kickoff return for a touchdown as MSU pulled away.
However, Auburn scored 22 unanswered points and took a 25-24 lead with 6:36 left in regulation. The two teams then traded touchdowns down the stretch with the Tigers also converting a two-point conversion to go up 33-30 with 1:05 left on the clock in the fourth quarter.
Mississippi State responded as the Bulldogs tied the game with one second left on a 44-yard field goal by Massimo Biscardi.
Then in overtime, the MSU defense forced an Auburn field goal try which the Tigers missed and Marks ended the game with his touchdown run on the Bulldogs' ensuing drive.

Next Up for MSU…
Mississippi State plays at home for a second straight week, hosting Georgia on Saturday, November 12. The battle of the Southeastern Conference's Bulldogs is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. CT at Davis Wade Stadium. The contest will be televised by ESPN.
