Class of 2023: Ella Wesolowski

STARKVILLE – A two-time Player of the Year and PGF Futures All-American, Ella Wesolowski signed with Mississippi State softball in November.
Wesolowski, a catcher and outfielder from Williamsville, New York, is considered the nation's No. 81 prospect nationally by Extra Inning Softball and the No. 34 catcher in the class.
"Ella is an all-around athlete who is going to continue the tradition of shutdown catchers behind the dish for us," head coach Samantha Ricketts said. "She has incredible overhand velocity and is an excellent receiver at the catcher position. She also hits for power and has a high softball IQ to go with her natural leadership skills. She comes from a competitive travel ball organization – Top Gun National – coached by Bob Turner and will be prepared for the transition to SEC softball."
Wesolowski was a four-year letterwinner at Williamsville East High School where she won a state championship in 2019 behind a 27-0 record. Her career began in eight grade, and she earned all-state honors that year after batting .468 with 37 runs scored. Her freshman season was cancelled by Covid-19, but she returned to hit .500 with five home runs as a sophomore and earn ECIC II Player of the Year recognition.
The following summer she was selected to the 2021 PGF Futures All-America Game. She split her travel career between With Intensity Softball and Top Gun Softball. She batted .495 for Top Gun on her way to her All-American selection and has collected 20 total homers and 54 RBIs over the last two years.
"Ella has an absolute cannon from behind the plate that could potentially shut down everyone's running game," associate head coach Josh Johnson added. "She's a great receiver and has a ton of pop at the plate. I think she could be an elite of the elites in our program."
As a junior at Williamsville East, she hit .339 with 14 extra-base hits to earn her second straight NYS Player of the Year award. On the travel circuit she held opponents to just 11 successful steal attempts in 2021-22.
"I knew as soon as I stepped on the field at Mississippi State that this school was the place for me because of the coaching staff and environment." Wesolowski said. "Each coach's goal was not only to push everyone to their limit but also to be super supportive and have fun while doing it."
Mississippi State softball signed five student-athletes on National Signing Day on Nov. 9. State's class was ranked No. 10 by Extra Inning Softball, the highest-ranked class under Ricketts. Every player was ranked among the nation's top 100 by Extra Inning Softball. The Bulldogs will continue to release an in-depth look at each signee throughout the month of December.
